For best results, download the latest version of the Instacart app for iOS or Android.

You can track your shopper’s progress and view item changes in the Instacart app. Turn on notifications to get alerts for all changes, including replacements and refunds.

If your shopper hasn’t begun your order, you can update it on the Order screen.  If your shopper has already started on your order, you can chat with them for help. 

Add a new item 

You can add items until your shopper checks out.

On the home screen, tap Add items to order.

On the order screen, tap Add or view items or search for the item and tap the plus symbol.

You can also chat with your shopper directly to add items.

If you ask your shopper to add an item in the chat, the Add an item popup suggests items based on your request.

Tap the plus symbol to add the item and close the popup.

The app lets your shopper know you added an item.

Note: There are some item restrictions. You can’t add alcohol, Rx, prohibited items, items over $49.99, items for Klarna orders, or items from select retailers.

Change quantity or remove an item

In-app—

  1. Tap the Account icon.
  2. Tap Orders.
  3. Select the current order.
  4. Select the item you want to edit.
  5. Tap the plus or minus symbol to increase or decrease quantity.

On the website—

  1. Click the 3 horizontal lines in the upper left corner. 
  2. Click Your Orders.
  3. Select the order you want to update.
  4. Select the item whose quantity you want to adjust. 
  5. Click the number and adjust as you like. 

Update item replacement choices

  1. Tap the current order button at the bottom of the screen (app) OR
  2. Click the 3 horizontal lines in the upper left corner, then select the order you want to update under Your orders (web.)
  3. Under the item you’d like to update, select Edit replacement.
  4. Choose your preferred replacement option.

Approving order changes 

You can select replacement options, or choose a refund for the item instead. 

To see items your shopper already found—

  1. Tap the current order button at the bottom of the screen (app) OR
  2. Click the 3 horizontal lines in the upper left corner, then select the current order under Your orders (web.)
  3. Select See Shopped Items
  4. If you approve the change, select Approve. 
  5. If you prefer another option, select Other options…
  6. If you don’t see the option you prefer, chat with your shopper.
  7. When shopping is complete, you can view all completed changes and items in the Item Summary.

Note: Depending on your selected retailer and delivery time, your order may be stored at the appropriate temperature for each item until delivery. We’ll let you know on the order screen if that happens.
